Cabinet has approved the Children’s Amendment Bill — a landmark step for South Africa’s youngest children and the ECD practitioners who care for them. The Bill will simplify registration, recognise diverse ECD programmes, and open funding to communities long locked out of the system. But it’s not done yet. Parliament must now treat this with the urgency it deserves.
The TuesdayTakeOver on SAfm unpacks what this means. Host Thozama Njobe (Kuyana Narratives) is joined by David Harrison (DGMT), Tatiana Kazim (Equality Collective) and Tshepo Mantje (Real Reform for ECD) to dig into why ECD is a constitutional right, how this Bill can fix a system that’s failed too many children for too long — and what every South African can do to help get it across the finish line.
