Small things can create big changes in the first 1 000 days of life, starting at conception until a child’s second birthday.
While this period is a critical window for growth and development, there is often less clarity on the mechanisms through which this potential is realised. This webinar will place responsive caregiving at the centre of child development, alongside early stimulation, learning and nutrition as key, interconnected drivers of child outcomes, and explore why these connections matter.
We ask: What does responsive caregiving look like in practice? Why does it matter in the first 1 000 days? And what are the priority actions at household, community, service delivery and policy levels to better enable caregiving?
For this Perspectives Series session, Busisiwe Kabane-Bailey (Innovation Director, DGMT) is joined by Professor Mark Tomlinson (Co-Director, Institute for Life Course Health Research, Stellenbosch University), Ruth Mathys (Flourish Strategic Lead, Grow Great Campaign) and Richard Lundie (Early Life Programme Director, Sikunye) to explore what it takes to support caregiving in ways that lead to better outcomes for young children.
