ENCA Interview: National Treasury policy review: Minimum Unit Pricing (MUP) on alcohol

National Treasury has just published a policy review considering minimum unit pricing (MUP) on alcohol—a key intervention we’ve advocated for at DGMT. MUP could set a price floor on alcoholic drinks, making it harder for cheap, high-alcohol products to fuel problem drinking, especially among vulnerable groups.

This public comment period is a rare opportunity to shape policy that could significantly reduce alcohol-related harm across South Africa. Zimasa Mpemnyama, the Project Lead of the Alcohol Harms Reduction, delves into the implications with eNCA and explains why this is a potential game-changer for public health.
